« Information on the effective Wedderburn number »
Purpose: This calculator provides the upwelling information for a lake with sloping geometry. The required parameters are submitted by the user to the input fields shown above. The result is determined using an iterative algorithm to satisfy the force balance between the wind stress and baroclinic force in the lake. Once the results are obtained, they can be used in the same context as the standard Wedderburn number. That is, it is possible to estimate the upwelling process from the effective Wedderburn number and the lower layer surfaces at upwind end (upwelling) at We = 0.5. The extra parameters that compare to the standard Wedderburn number are Lu and H. Further details are given in the paper byShintani and Imberger, to be submitted soon.
