CWR Software Policy

GUIDELINES FOR CWR SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION

October 2009

1. Important Definitions

“executables”are CWR compiled binaries for PC, LINUX and Mac OSX. Includes DYRESM, ELCOM and CAEDYM.
“source code”consists of raw Fortran text files for DYRESM, ELCOM and CAEDYM.
“user”is defined as a single node of an organisation using CWR software (e.g. a regional office or university). Additional nodes are considered third party to the agreement.
“research”is use of the software for which the sole purpose of the application is the publication of scientific paper(s) or student thesis.
“commercial”is use of the software that does not include research use.*
“membership”is Gold, Silver or Bronze membership packages offered by CWR for an annual fee (see details below).

Note: *CWR will exercise its discretion when determining the category of software use applicable to each user.

2. Distribution of Executables

a) Executables for Research Use

Executables are available free of charge for research use provided the user:

  1. agrees to CWR’s research user license terms and conditions;
  2. does not distribute the executables to any third party;
  3. does not use the executables for commercial use;
  4. provides CWR with an annual report and copies of any research publications that use the executables; and
  5. formally acknowledges CWR in any research publications that use the executables.

b) Executables for Commercial Use

Executables are available for an annual membership fee for commercial use provided the user:

  1. agrees to CWR’s commercial user license terms and conditions;
  2. pays an annual membership fee;
  3. does not distribute the executables to any third party;
  4. provides CWR with an annual report detailing the use of the executables; and
  5. formally acknowledges CWR in any publications that use the executables.
There are no additional payments or royalties associated with commercial use of the executables.

3. Distribution of Source Code

a) Source Code for Research Use

Source code is available free of charge for research use provided the user:

  1. signs a research user agreement with CWR;
  2. does not distribute source code or self-compiled binaries to any third party;
  3. provides CWR with copies of source code changes;
  4. provides CWR with an annual report and copies of any research publications that use the source code;
  5. does not use self-compiled binaries for commercial use unless they hold a current Silver or Gold membership package; and
  6. formally acknowledges CWR in any research publications that use the source code.

b) Source Code for Commercial Use

Requests for source code for commercial use will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and will be granted at the sole discretion of CWR. Enquires should be emailed to services@cwr.uwa.edu.au.

†Online training courses and face-to-face training and/or support can be provided to all model users not entitled to these services under their membership or seeking additional services to those specified under their membership. This will be undertaken for an agreed price and subject to staff availability.
