Aquatic Ecosystem Dynamics (AED)
The core of this theme is to improve our understanding of the ecological processes occurring in lakes, reservoirs, estuaries and coastal seas. The theme is oriented around developing a deeper knowledge of chemical and biological dynamics within the water, and how they interact with the physical motions. Using a range of advanced measurement technology, research is conducted into topics such as controls on population dynamics, biogeochemical dynamics, and microbial ecology. In addition to developing our core understanding, work is also conducted into novel microbial detection methods, and advanced ecosystem modeling using CWR's aquatic ecology model, CAEDYM. The various focus areas are described under the sub-theme headings below.
